On the morning of January 31, the Tennessee General Assembly passed House Resolution 17, introduced by Rep. Brenda Gilmore, proclaiming Friday, February 1 as National Wear Red Day.
The day marks women’s fight against heart disease, their No. 1 killer. Heart disease alone kills nearly 7000 women each year in Tennessee, more than all forms of cancer combined. This year is the 10th Annual National Wear Red Day.
As a sign of support, many General Assembly members and staff wore an element of red to mark the occasion.
National Wear Red Day is a part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement. More information can be found at www.goredforwomen.org
