One of the most hurtful experiences we can have in this life is when someone we love and depend upon lets us down. Many children have experienced this with their parents. Others have had a spouse whom they depended upon leave them. These situations have the potential of making someone feel helpless and hopeless. Some have felt the desperation of needing someone to help us solve problems and to get through some very difficult situations. Unfortunately for whatever reason, the people whom we thought would pull us through could not be found. In these situations, we need to remember that God will take care of us.
In Psalm 121, the psalmist clearly states in these short verses, that the Lord is our help, and God will take care of us: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keeps thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
This is good news. No matter how people try to help us work out some of our problems and challenges, they may not be able to do anything about our situation. There are some life events, which only God can help. The good news is God is our help. God is powerful. God is omnipotent, and God knows all about how to help us through our situations. God is powerful and able to help us. We need all types of help to survive life’s trials and tribulation. One needs help with bills, while the other needs help with emotional challenges. One needs help with raising their children, while the other needs help with finding a job or a place to live. But whatever the problem—God knows all about it, and God will take care of it.
He that keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. God does not nap on our situations. God is interested and concerned. God cares, and God will take care of each of us. God’s care comforts, heals, and delivers. This is real care. God’s care does not take advantage of us or demand anything in return. God will take care of us. Someone can testify that when we hurt, God will take care of us. When friends and family forsake us, God will take care of us. When we feel like we can no longer take care of ourselves, God will take care of us. This is why the songwriter wrote, “Be not dismayed whate’er betide, God will take care of you! Beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you! God will take care of you; Through every day o’er all the way; He will take care of you; God will take care of you!”
