The Black Theatre Festival continues at the Darkhorse Theatre with Moments in Time, an original comic drama by local playwright Shawn Whitsell. Moments in Time is produced by the Destiny Theatre Experience, which was founded by Whitsell. Moments in Time is also directed by and stars Whitsell, joined by a cast of talented local actors.

Moments in Time is a sometimes dramatic and sometimes comedic recreation of stories from the life of the actor and director. Joined by a cast of Nashville’s finest actors, Whitsell will relive moments of his life, comic, tragic, moving and ironic. The playwright shares touching stories about bonding with his father; losing his grandparents; his hilarious experience on the inside of a jail cell; and his three-year stint in an R&B boy band.

The show is complete with photos, old video footage, singing, dance routines and lots of memorable characters.
Show times are Friday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 pm. Tickets at $10.

Each Saturday, the Black Theatre Festival showcases an acting workshop for children or adults from 10 am to 1 pm. Donations are accepted.

After you’ve enjoyed Moments in Time on Sat. evening, stick around for Renard Hirsch’s Comedy Showcase, at 10:30 pm. Hirsch is a hilarious comedian and sure to have you doubled over with laughter, not to mention giggling all the way home. The Showcase is a ‘pay-what-you-can’ event.

The Darkhorse Theatre is located at 4610 Charlotte Ave., Nashville.

The 2013 Shades of Black Festival is produced in conjunction with Sista Style Productions, Dream 7 Productions, the Destiny Theatre Experience, Jene India and Sheerene Whitfield.
