They are two of the most beloved actors/characters in recent science fiction television. Oh, Doctor! Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are scheduled to attend the Wizard World Louisville Comic Con this month. And to the sheer delight of the fans of the worldwide BBC media sensation Doctor Who, they will offer fans there the opportunity to have their pictures taken together with both the 11th Doctor and his “girl-who-waited” companion Amy Pond.
If that didn’t register, let’s explain: Matt Smith, who recently completed an acclaimed four-year run as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor in the landmark British television series Doctor Who, and Karen Gillan, who portrayed ‘Amy Pond,’ will appear at the inaugural Wizard World Louisville Comic Con. Smith will attend Saturday, March 29 only, while Gillan is scheduled for both Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.
Both will greet fans, sign autographs, pose for photo ops and conduct separate interactive Q&As (question and answer sessions). Gillan’s is on Friday; Smith’s is on Saturday during the event at the Kentucky International Convention Center. They will pose together with fans for two hours on Saturday morning, believed to be the first time in North America the duo has been available to fans for joint photos.
Smith began his acting career on stage, appearing in various popular London theatrical performances before landing the coveted role in Doctor Who in 2010. He received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2011 and his final episode, on Christmas Day 2013, was BBC America’s largest audience ever, attesting to both the popularity of the series in America and Smith’s success in the role.
The former model Gillan appeared in Series 5-7 of Doctor Who, beginning in 2010, as the new companion to the 11th Doctor Matt Smith. The Inverness, Scotland, native has added numerous theatre roles, starred in the film Not Another Happy Ending last year, and portrays the mercenary ‘Nebula’ in the upcoming blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
Other top stars scheduled to appear at Wizard World Louisville Comic Con include Michael Rooker, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies and Scott Wilson of The Walking Dead, Summer Glau (Firefly/Serenity, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Arrow), Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, Conan the Barbarian, Game of Thrones), James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Caprica, Torchwood, Smallville), Sara Underwood, Dean Cain (Adventures of Lois and Clark), WWE Superstar Randy Orton, and Sean Astin (
