The Nashville Rollergirls are really on a roll. This year they are co-sponsoring the Junior Roller derby’s big weekend July 11–13, while maintaining a challenging yet successful season of their own—all while planning to host their league championship in the fall. Upcoming contests for the Nashville Rollergirls are Saturday, July 26 and August 9 at the historic Municipal Auditorium. The Junior Rollergirls big match of the season is Friday, July 11 at the Fairgrounds.
Nashville Junior Roller Derby hosts a junior boot camp Saturday, July 12, with instructors from the Nashville Rollergirls. Junior Derby players from all over the U.S. will come together to learn, have fun, bond and grow as players. Division 1 Nashville Rollergirl All Star skaters Lady Fury, Four Leaf Roller, Tear-o-Bite, Morgan Grinder, Big Banger, Stella Live, Chelsea Dagger and others will give hands-on instruction and tips on blocking, jamming, strategy, skating skills, footwork and more.
Following a full day (9am-3pm) of instruction they will host a scrimmage-a-thon, where the girls will try out their new skills first hand and do what they love most, play derby. The following day is ‘Derby Takes Over Nashville Shores,’ with discount ticket to Nashville Shores for fun in the sun. The weekend will be preparation for JRDA Championships August 7-10 in Daytona Beach.
Nashville Junior Roller Derby’s Mission is to nurture self-confidence in young women by developing teamwork and athletic ability while encouraging individuality within a culture of discipline, sisterhood, and stewardship through the competitive sport of the roller derby.
In partnership with the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, Nashville Rollergirls will host the 2014 WFTDA Championships October 31–November 2 at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Athletes, officials, support staff and fans will come from all over the world to be a part of the premiere roller derby events of the year.
The WFTDA Division 1 and Division 2 Playoffs and Championships bring together the most talented women’s roller derby teams and athletes in the world to compete for the sport’s top honor, a WFTDA Championship. The 2014 WFTDA Championships are the final of seven women’s roller derby tournaments being held in the United States and Canada. Each Playoff tournament will include 10 teams. Championships will include the 12 Division 1 teams and four Division 2 teams that advance from their respective Playoffs.
The 2014 tournament dates, locations and hosts are: Division 2, Aug. 15-17, Duluth, Minnesota, Harbor City Roller Dames; and Aug. 22-24, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Tri-City Roller Girls. Division 1, Sept. 5-7, Sacramento, California, Sacred City Derby Girls; Sept. 12-14, Lincoln, Nebraska, No Coast Derby Girls; Sept. 19-21, Evansville, Indiana, Demolition City Roller Derby; Sept. 26-28, Salt Lake City, Utah, hosted by Wasatch Roller Derby; and Oct. 3-5, Charleston, West Virginia, Chemical Valley Rollergirls.
