‘Celebrate! We’re gonna have a good time! Hey! Hey!’
This was the opening song on Sunday August 10 when members, friends and family of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, Tenn. gathered to celebrate the New Generation Choir on their anniversary choir day.
As the day got underway, the program consisted of a variety of musical ministries.
The mistress of ceremonies, Lisa Woodard, played ‘double-duty’—not only giving great ministry to the congregation following each presentation, but sharing great ministry in song as a musician and singer when the spirit entered.
The Mt. Vernon Senior Choir opened the celebration and set the stage for the gospel program singing ‘Celebrate!’ The next ministry came in the form of an instrumental duo by Fredrick Weathersby and Stefan Rocs. The two instrumentalists played a medley of old school gospel and other musical selections on the saxophone and the trumpet—horns that had the crowd standing to their feet.
Under the direction of Sister Lily Joy, the Mt. Vernon’s New Generation choir really welcomed their guests with two dynamic selections. “We may have some trials but we will keep growing and growing and growing,” Lily said.
Along with the horns, the program was filled with a great variety of music from other participants included in the program. A duet was sung by Madison and McKenzie Harris; with numbers by Sounds of Life; Freedom International; and a mime/dance presentation featuring Tyrell Farley. The Mt. Vernon Male Chorus closed out the anniversary celebration.
