The church family of Jackson Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1209 Jackson Street, are working to celebrate five years with their pastor, Rev. Robert L. Pearson (although Pearson holds both a Master’s and Doctorate in Divinity, he prefers to be called simply ‘Pastor Pearson’).
On Sunday, September 14, the members, friends and family of Pastor Pearson will gather to show their love. The chosen theme is ‘Worthy of Double Honor,’ referenced from I Timothy 5:17, with blue and gold colors as a sign of royalty.
This day of celebration will consist of two worship services. The morning worship service will begin at 11 am with special guest speaker, Rev. Kerry James, Sr. and Grace United Missionary Baptist Church.
The afternoon worship service will be held at 3:30 pm with special guest Rev. Breonus M. Mitchell, Sr. and the Greater Grace Temple Baptist Church.
Pastor Robert Leon Pearson was born October 27, 1971 to Floretta and the late Min. L.A. Pearson in a small town in south central Kentucky, Smiths Grove (population: 700).
It was in that town that Pearson helped his father as a farmer, hauling hay, stripping tobacco, chopping wood and all manner of other farm duties.
Pearson attended Warren East High School in Bowling Green, Ky. As a part of his high school years, he played football and participated in track and field. While off the field, he was a part of the choir. He graduated in 1989.
Upon graduating high school, Pearson then attended Western Kentucky University for two years.
And through it all, he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the young age of nine while attending New Salem Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ky. This was the night his father spoke as a revival evangelist.
Fast-forward 10 years: Robert Pearson accepted his call to the gospel ministry at the age of 19. He preached his first sermon on October 19, 1991 at the Icy Sink Baptist Church in Smiths Grove, Ky. At the age of 21, he became the senior pastor of that church on April 4, 1993. He then attended the Great Commission Bible College and Theological Seminary where he received a Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies, a Master’s in Divinity, and a Doctorate in Theology.
Until July of 2010, Pearson served as the president of the Union District Congress of Christian Education, a writer for the American Baptist Newspaper, as well as an executive board member and secretary to the Baptist Unified Christian Leadership Conference, which is an auxiliary to the General Association of Baptist in Kentucky.
On April 23, 2009, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Pearson was unanimously elected to serve as pastor of Jackson Street Missionary Baptist Church. He was officially welcomed to his new position on Sunday, June 7, 2009.
Pastor Pearson is married to Michelle Louise Hayden. They have four children: Xavier, Charmisha, Aaliyah, and Nakia; and two grand children.
In the words of Pastor Pearson: “God has called me to rise up a holy standard for the entire world to see. To God be the glory!”
Jackson Street Missionary Baptist Church is located at 1209 Jackson Street.
