The Tennessee Promise deadline is coming up quickly. Students need to apply by November 1. Tennessee Promise offers two years of tuition-free community or technical college to Tennessee high school graduates beginning with the Class of 2015.
Tennessee Promise is a last-dollar scholarship, meaning it will cover college costs not met from Pell, HOPE, or TSAA.
The TN Promise is part of Tennessee’s new Drive to 55 Alliance which is an active and rapidly growing alliance of private sector partners, leaders and non-profits working together in support of the state’s Drive to 55 initiative to equip 55% of Tennesseans with a college degree or certificate by 2025.
While the Alliance will actively support all facets of the Drive to 55 initiative, it will focus initially on the successful launch and implementation of the new TN Promise scholarship program.
As part of the program, students will be paired with a partnering organization serving their home county and will be provided with a mentor who will support them during the college application process.
The Tennessee Promise is a statewide program that allows high school seniors, including home school students, to attend community college free of tuition starting in fall of 2015. Volunteer State Community College is one of the eligible Tennessee Promise colleges. The Promise application, and the Vol State application, can both be completed online. But there are special information sessions coming up soon for parents and high school seniors who want help. At each session, participants will have access to computers to complete the online Tennessee Promise application, and the online Vol State application. Vol State will also waive the normal application fee for those who attend the sessions.
The Gallatin campus sessions will be Saturday, October 18, from 9 am to noon and Tuesday, October 21, from 5:30-7:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided, and on October 18 attendees can also enjoy the free Vol State Fall Fiesta on campus from 10 am to 4 pm.
Reservations are required for all sessions and can be completed online by visiting www.volstate.edu/ promise. Exact locations will be provided at sign-up.
