The Tennessee State University Tigers suffered yet another defeat on their home turf this past Saturday afternoon at LP field. The Colonels of Eastern Kentucky handed the Big Blue their fifth loss in a row in the semi-shootout—final score, 56-42. The Tigers are now 4-6, with a 1-5 record at the bottom of the conference.
The bright spot for the Tigers in this game was Michael German. He threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran one in for a score. German’s five-yard touchdown to Quindell Cousins pulled the Tigers within seven late in the third quarter. However, his second interception of the game led to Jeff Glover’s lone touchdown reception to put the Colonels up by three touchdowns late in the fourth.
Eastern Kentucky’s Jared McClain and Dy’Shawn Mobley each accounted for three touchdowns. McClain finished with 139 yards on 23 carries. He also threw for 70 yards on 10 of 18 passing. His 36-yard touchdown run put the Colonels (8-1, 5-1) in the lead for good, 27-21, halfway through the third quarter. He added a two-yard rushing score at the beginning of the fourth as well. Dy’Shawn Mobley, like McClain, also rushed for 139 yards, but on 27 carries. His first two scores helped Eastern Kentucky grab an early 17-0 lead.
Ryan Mitchell added 119 yards receiving for the Tigers.
This upcoming Saturday, the Tigers take on the Governors of Austin Peay State University at 4 pm in Clarksville, TN. It’s Homecoming at Austin Peay. The Governors have the worst overall record in the OVC at 1-8.
