Nashville Pride receives JUMP Vintage Award

The Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership, CDC (JUMP) will hold its 15th annual Christmas Extravaganza at the 15th Avenue Baptist Church. Festivities begin at 6 pm on Sunday, December 7. This year’s event will include taking a walk on the ‘Red Carpet’ with the ‘Best of the Best.’

“The Candlelight awards is an attempt to show appreciation to those individuals who have shown leadership in the African American community,” said Sharon Hurt, president/CEO of JUMP. “It is a small award in comparison to the value of the service they provide.”

Those being honored with the Candlelight Awards will include Judge Rachel Bell; Latrisha Jemison, senior vice president for ‘community relations,’ Regions Bank; John Little, principal, Little-Smith Strategies; and internationally known artists Michael McBride and James Threalkill. The Nashville Pride newspaper/Pride Publishing Group will receive the Vintage Award. Three businesses will be inducted into the Jefferson Street Merchants Hall of Fame.
They are the John Claybrooks Insurance Agency, the Elks Lodge and Jubilee Florists.

“JUMP appreciates the determination and dedication business owners have shown over the years in overcoming the many and varied obstacles to stay in business,” said Mrs. Hurt. “We want them to know we share in their commitment.”

A celebratory reception will be held immediately following at The Garden Brunch Café, Jefferson Street. Events are free and open to the public.
