TSU set to welcome 23 new football Tigers

Tennessee State University football Head Coach Rod Reed announced the addition of 23 new Tigers on National Signing Day, Feb 4. The class includes 18 incoming freshmen and nine players who call the Volunteer State home. The 2015 group is tied for the largest in Reed’s tenure and features 12 offensive player, nine defenders and one specialist. They include the following:

Jonte Broski – TE, 6’3”, 235 lbs., Northmont H.S., Clayton, Ohio. A 2015 Ohio All-Star, Broski is the son of Veronica Broski.

Greg Harvey, Jr. – CB, 5’9”, 172 lbs., Cordova H.S., Cordova, Tenn. Harvey ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds, and is the son of Carolyn and Greg Harvey, Sr.

Shakur Jackson – CB, 5’9”, 165 lbs., Roswell H.S., Roswell, Ga. Jackson played wide receiver and cornerback and is the son of Tabitha Hanes.

Andrew Knox – RB, 5’10”, 242 lbs., Siegel H.S., Murfreesboro, Tenn. Knox played fullback and middle linebacker; ran the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds; and is the son of Andrea and Earl Knox.

Quintis Maddox – DE, 6’3”, 265 lbs., Salem H.S., Conyers, Ga. Maddox is also on the track and field team, and is the son of LaDonna Maddox.

Trevion Duncan – S, 5’10”, 180 lbs., Lamar H.S., Houston, Texas. With four interceptions as a senior, Duncan ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds.

Mahlon Medley – TE, 6’3”, 220 lbs., Mallard Creek H.S., Charlotte, N.C. Medley’s team was 15-1 overall and 7-0 in conference. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.71 seconds, and is the son of Devon Medley.

Gabe Scott – CB/WR, 5’11”, 165 lbs., Trezevant H.S., Memphis, Tenn. Scott ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, and is the son of Claudine and Robert Scott.

Lachavious Simmons – DE/T, 6’4”, 270 lbs., Selma H.S., Selma, Ala. His team had a 6-4 record as senior. He is the son of Quincella Simmons.

Akeem Granger – RB, 6’0”, 210 lbs., Flanagan H.S., Pembroke Pines, Fla. Granger ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. His team was 12-1 overall and 7-0 district as a senior.

Tyler Black – CB, 5’9”, 170l lbs., Oakland H.S., Murfreesboro, Tenn. Black played running back, quarterback, wide receiver, safety and cornerback, and is the son of Bridgette Black-Kertchaval and Kenneth Adams.

Blair Edwards – LB, 6’1”, 192 lbs., Gadsden City H.S., Gadsden, Ala. Edwards team was 10-3 overall and 6-1 region as a senior. He is the son of Freda and Rodney Edwards.

Jacob Gray – T, 6’2”, 262 lbs., Bolivar Central H.S., Bolivar, Tenn. 14-AA Offensive Lineman of the Year, gray is the son of Sharon Anderson.

Camren Jones – T, 6’4”, 295 lbs., Ridgeway H.S., Memphis, Tenn. Jones’ team was 12-2 overall and 6-0 district as a senior. He is the son of Vaniessa and Charlie Jones.

Deon Ragston – OL, 6’3”, 290 lbs., Caney Creek H.S., Conroe, Texas. All-District senior, Ragston is the son of Linda and Darrell Ragston, Sr.

Robert Crawford – DL, 6’2”, 245 lbs., Father Ryan H.S., Nashville, Tenn. Crawford played outside linebacker and defensive end, and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.88 seconds.

Roshea Grays – RB, 5’10”, 183 lbs., Lavergne H.S., Lavergne, Tenn. Grays ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

A.J. Flowers – S, 6’1”, 200 lbs., College of the Siskiyous, Miami, Fla. Flowers ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, and is the son of Andrea Riley and Amp Flowers.

Geordie Bunn – P, 6’6”, 207 lbs., Butte College, Queensland, Australia. Bunn was a punter for Butte College in California, and is the son of Paul and Donna Bunn.

Mid-Year Enrollees

Michael Hughes – QB, 6’2”, 215 lbs., Hillsboro H.S., Nashville, Tenn. Hughes’ team was 14-1 overall, 7-0 district as a senior.

Rodney Morris – TE, 6’3”, 220 lbs., UAB, Alpharetta, Ga. Morris was a redshirt at the University of Alabama, Birmingham last season.

David Kamara – CB, 5’10”, 199 lbs., Ole Miss, Loganville, Ga. Kamara played the last two seasons at Ole Miss and is the son of Sorie and Alice Kamara.

Duaron Williams – T, 6’3”, 289 lbs., Iowa State, Orlando, Fla. Williams played the last three seasons at Iowa State and is the son of Angela Williams.
