Thursday, April 30, from 6:30-10 p.m., the Adventure Science Center will take you to Westeros for an evening of high fantasy in celebration of one of the most acclaimed television shows ever mounted, based on one of the most widely heralded series of fantasy novels, both currently in production. Brush up on your Dothraki and journey across the Narrow Sea to claim your throne at Adventure Science Center.
Gather your dragons and your armies, and pay tribute to R’hllor (for the night is dark and full of terrors) as you show your favor for House Targaryen, House Stark, House Lannister, or House Baratheon while learning about some of the science behind the hit novel/television series Game of Thrones. The television show just premiered the first episode of its fifth season on Sunday, April 12. Author George R.R. Martin is hard at work on the long-awaited sixth huge novel in the series.
Activities in part of the evening’s fun at no extra charge include the following special activities and demonstrations:
‘Unsullied Senses’: The Unsullied are a group of warriors who feel no pain. Learn how your body feels different sensations and see if you are unsullied.
‘Squid Dissection’: Much like Theon Greyjoy’s unfortunate run-in with the Boltons, you can dissect your own squid! See if you can remove the ink sac and the pen or find the lens in the eyeball.
‘The Strangler’: Investigate different compounds that could’ve been used to poison King Joffrey. Don’t worry, it’s safe.
‘A Science Show of Fire and Ice’: Watch some amazing fire and ice reactions demonstrated by our trained science educators.
‘Costume contest’ (prizes include tickets to future Way Lates and the Tennessee Renaissance Festival)
‘Trivia’ presented by Wannado
‘Planetarium’ shows at 6:30-7:30 pm, 8:30 pm, and 9:30 pm.
Extra cost activities include Food Trucks onsite, like Music City Pie Co. and Electric Sliders. You can make your own T-shirt or print with Hip Hues.

Way Late Play Dates are quarterly events designed as adults-only for a night of science and fun. Each Way Late has a special theme with cool science activities to take part in. Plus, you’ll have all the floor exhibits to yourself, including the laser game Body Battles in BodyQuest, the Tilt a World in Space Chase and the many levels of the Adventure Tower. All the center’s exhibits are adult-friendly, so if the kids can climb it or slide down it, so can you.
