New Salem AME hosts charity auction

The members, friends and family of New Salem African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), 1800 4th Ave. N., will host an auction on June 20 during a day of community participation.

The community event will begin at 9 am as an effort to raise funds for scholarships and other activities of the church.
“Any effort of participation is welcomed,” said Rev. Eddie Sneed, pastor of New Salem.

Rev. Sneed is a fairly new pastor to the community, being appointed to New Salem at the end of October 2014.

Sneed and the church have been collecting items for this community affair to include new and gently used clothing, shoes and accessories. The day will be filled with food, fun, fellowship and something for the entire family.

The charity auction will include auctioneers and is considered the main event.

There will be a plethora of items auctioned from household items, services and other creative ‘things for sale’ including cars, including a classic 1965 Ford Mustang convertible.

Because this is a community effort, there are three ways to participate:
1) set up a booth;
2) donate items to be auctioned;
3) include items for auction by consignment

Rev. Sneed is a great believer of giving scholarships to youth and deserving members of his church and community and makes every effort to develop creative means of raising funds in an effort to enable the church to recognize the importance of giving.

Other activities already planned for the month of June (deemed Men’s Month at New Salem AME) include a weeklong revival; a Men’s Conference to be held on June 27; and a pre-conference revival held on June 25-26.
