Members of Clark Memorial United Methodist Church have been in a huddle since January of this year, preparing for October 4, which marks the day of celebration for 150 years in the ministry.
As a special commemoration, the Homecoming Special Events Committee have been preparing a few activities, one of which is a Homecoming Gala to take place on Friday, October 2. Discipleship Ministries, located at 1908 Grand Street, is expected to fill up Jackson Hall for a fun-filled night to be remembered.
The Clark Homecoming Gala will include entertainment from comedian Renard Hirsch, special recognitions, honorings, music, and great food prepared by Chocolate Catering.
“Most of our activities take place on the campus of our church, and it is just a pleasure to get outside of the church for an evening of celebration. The church takes part in activities outside of the church, but sometimes it’s nice to get a little dressed up and have a special kind of evening with music and an alternative form of entertainment, such as comedy,” said one special events coordinator. “We have also been looking forward to this day that will recognize some very special and influential people that don’t always get the type of recognition that they often deserve.”
The 150th Homecoming committee has chosen a theme, ‘An Old Message for a New Era,’ that marks God’s message that continues as the years go by. The scripture aligned with the theme is John 16:29-33.
In addition to the Clark Homecoming Gala, there are other events and ongoing activities that are taking place in honor of the 150th year of celebration. Some of those events/activities include: Mattie Flowers Handbell Choir Dinner (September 19); Youth Career Day (September 12); ‘Walking 150 Miles for Christ’; ‘Change for Christ’ loose change (coins) donations; souvenir book.
In addition to the aforementioned activities, Oct-ober 4 will be the day of Clarks 150th Homecoming worship celebration. There will be one service at 10:45 am. Rev. Dr. Theodore Cody Collier will be the guest speaker. A fellowship dinner will follow.
