Last week we looked at the new programs being offered on the five major commercial broadcast networks. While there are over 400 different scripted programs being offered across a variety of platforms over the coming year, including satellite and the internet, we are reporting here on some exciting shows that are available free of charge, without cable or wi-fi, in high definition in your home. Let’s take a day-by-day look at some of the more popular, critically acclaimed series returning this fall on ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox, and NBC. As we noted last week, some have already begun.
SUNDAY: CSI is one of the most successful franchises in television history, spawning several spinoffs. CSI: Cyber returns Oct. 4 but on Sept. 27, the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation signs off with a special two-hour series finale. Once Upon a Time returns for a fanciful 5th season on Sept. 27 with a recap show at 6 and the season premiere at 7. NBC has an exciting NFL football game in prime time each week.
MONDAY: The #1 comedy on TV returned at 7 on Sept. 21 on CBS when The Big Bang Theory began its 9th season; it moves to Thursdays at 7 on Nov 5. On Fox, Gotham: Rise of the Villains is the new title of the Batman origin show which began its 2nd season at 7 on Sept. 21.
TUESDAY: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its 3rd season on Sept. 29, continuing the origin story of an amazing superpowered woman of color — Daisy “Quake” Johnson — at 8. The Flash zooms back for a 2nd season at 7 on Oct. 6, with Candice Patton and Jesse L. Martin helping Grant Gustin’s title character fight crime on The CW; iZombie follows at 8.
WEDNESDAY: Empire returned Sept. 23 on Fox at 8 for a 2nd season with fan favorites Taraji P. Henson and Terrance Howard. ABC brought back the award-winning Modern Family, Black-ish, and Nashville from 8-10, starting Sept. 23. Arrow returns on The CW for a fantastic 4th season at 7 on Oct. 7.
THURSDAY: TGIT is back! Sept. 24 on ABC, three amazing shows returned, all creations of the sensational Shonda Rhimes. Grey’s Anatomy opened its 12th season at 7; Scandal is bringing back the zany antics of Olivia Pope and Associates (and family) at 8; and Viola Davis is leading the legal drama How to Get Away with Murder for a 2nd season. CBS has NFL football through October, and beginning Nov. 5, The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and Elementary will anchor their night. Sleepy Hollow is back for a 3rd season at 8 on Fox after the 11th season of Bones at 7 beginning Oct. 1.
FRIDAY: Hawai’i Five-O is back for a 6th season at 8 on CBS, as of Sept. 250. Grimm is back for a 5th season on NBC beginning Oct. 30 at 8.
