Games, food, new friends, fellowship and a place of weekend entertainment…

On the second Sunday of each month, community singles (and some married couples) gather at the Manna From Heaven Dinner House, affectionately called, “The Manna,” for an evening of games, fellowship, food and fun! The Manna is located at 3510 West Hamilton Road.

This night of evening entertainment is called “Grown & Saved,” an alternative to the “nightlife” noted as “clubbing,” and “partying.” The question was asked, “Must the fun stop once you get saved?” And, the answer is a resounding “NO!” There is a common misconception that when one becomes “saved” the “fun” stops. No one actually speak those words, however, it is a basic assumption that being a person of faith comes with an unspoken list of what one should and should not do; places one should and should not go; what one should and should not say, etc.

From 6 pm until 9 pm Grown & Saved is an event that will offer the opportunity for like-minded Christians to come together in a judgement-free zone. “We want to create a place where people can go to have fun and not be worried with other stigmas attached to some other type of venues if they are not wanting to be in that type of environment,” said Sam Kirk, owner of the Manna. “We want to actually become a trend on this corner to this type of entertainment,” he added.

The first Grown & Saved event began with the game, The Family Feud and the next month began with another type of word game and a snippet of a type of Gospel karaoke. This was an introduction to the idea that karaoke is just as much fun as singing secular songs, karaoke-style, noted one participant who was an avid karaoke singer in many local clubs and other venues throughout the city. She wants to introduce a night of Gospel karaoke or make it a part of Grown & Saved as she has no desire to visit the clubs/bars anymore, but still has the desire to sing karaoke.

There were many prizes given and other surprises that makes Grown & Saved an exciting monthly adventure. A variety of games, gifts and ideas are planned for Grown & Saved, with different games and different food types to keep the months fresh and new. Those in attendance at the previous Grown & Saved events, attest to the idea that “there will be something different to look forward to each month, from the food to the gifts, as several people received gift cards to The Cheesecake Factory and to receive a free turkey!
