The new Hillsboro Village Kroger store at 2201 21st Avenue South, at Blair Avenue, in Nashville celebrated its Grand Opening on Wednesday, February 17th. The store opened at 7am with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9am. The 25,000 square foot store is conveniently located between the Belmont and Vanderbilt campuses.
“Our staff is excited about the grand opening festivities,” said Matt Uhles, store manager. “We have a beautiful store, and are we are looking forward to serving the students and customers in this neighborhood.”
Features of the store include a made-to-order pizza station, fresh sushi, a salad bar, made-to-order Boar’s Head sandwiches, service meat and seafood, natural and organic offerings, floral shop, and a Kroger Pharmacy. The new store employs approximately 120 associates. Grand Opening Day, the first 300 customers beginning at 7am received a free package of Simple Truth Natural Boneless Chicken Breasts.
Kroger is one of the nation’s largest retail grocery chains. The Nashville Division operates 92 stores and 76 Fuel Centers in Middle and East Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and North Alabama. The key focus areas of giving for Kroger are K-12 education, feeding the hungry, women’s health and wellness initiatives, and other grass roots community initiatives.
The store is a result of the acquisition of the Kroger chain of the region’s former Harris-Teeter stores. The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) and Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Inc. (NYSE: HTSI) completed the merger transaction between the two companies on January 28, 2014, though Harris Teeter retained its name, brand and headquarters. Harris Teeter still operates, 235 stores in seven states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, as of October 2015, Area shoppers will recognize the location, as it was a Harris Teeter store until it was bought out and closed last year. Interestingly, the pharmacy at the location remained in service to customers, operating out of a trailer during the remodeling construction phase of the transition.
Shoppers familiar with the former Harris Teeter store will find that the produce section is still at the front of the store. However, the Customer Service Desk, once on the left just as you entered, is now further into the store proper, located just beyond the checkout counters, near the beer selections close to the elevator.
Most areas on the first level are easily found, as the meat department, frozen foods, diary and such have not moved. One nice new touch is that the door leading out onto Blair Avenue at the registers now opens for easier access to the street. The main entrance is still the same, as is the parking lot arrangement. Checkout lanes are slightly different, in line with Kroger preferences.
On the uniquely designed store’s second level, the pharmacy and beauty aids and such are still on the upper level, along with the magazines and really nice newly remodeled bathroom facilities.
