Quidditch is a competitive sport in the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter universe, featured in the series of novels and movies, as a competition among the four Hogwarts houses for the Quidditch Cup each school year. This month, the Nashville Rollergirls will host their second annual Hit It and Quidditch – A Harry Potter Themed Roller Derby Tournament. The event is a fund-raiser for the squad, with four games scheduled: Slytherin faces Hufflepuff in the first match, Ravenclaw faces Gryffindor in the second; the losers play in the third and the winners in the fourth.

Skaters such as Harry Slaughter, Hermione Danger, Dumblegore, VoldeMorgs, among others will be sorted into the House Teams by a very special sorting hat ceremony that will begin at 5:20 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to buy spells to affect gameplay and also earn house points for their cheering sections. There will be a costume contest as well as other fun Harry Potter surprises. Earn points for your team by dressing in costume or sporting NRG swag! Doors open at 4:30 PM on Saturday, March 19 at the Nashville Fairgrounds.

The game has even been adopted in the real world, where the players run instead of fly but the basic rules are the same. In the books, Ravenclaw won the first, in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, while Gryffindor won in the third, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, fifth Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and sixth, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. No other houses won during the time covered by the seven books, with the contest deemed unsafe due to the mysterious attacks on students in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (second) and cancelled due to the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (fourth); the playing pitch was used for the third task in the tournament. The field was destroyed, so the contest was not played in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (the seventh book; the seventh and eighth movies).

Gryffindor values courage, bravery, nerve, and chivalry. Its mascot is the lion, and its colours are scarlet and gold. Hufflepuff values hard work, patience, justice, and loyalty. The house mascot is the badger, and canary yellow and black are its colours. Ravenclaw values intelligence, creativity, learning, and wit. The house mascot is an eagle and the house colours are blue and bronze (blue and grey in the films). Slytherin house values ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulness; Slytherins will do anything to get their way. The house mascot of Slytherin is the serpent, and the house colours are green and silver.
