Nashville’s Southern Women’s Show: Celebrating 30 years of shopping, fashion, prizes

The Southern Women’s Show returns for its 30th fabulous year with a staggering array of exhibits and events for 2016. The Music City Center will be brimming with fashion, cooking, career information, health and education, shops and celebrity appearances—plus daily prizes, discounts and giveaways.

In the 1980s, fashion was marked by creativity with some designers borrowing from history, and others abandoning history. Velvet and velour with high waistlines were hot and dressing like tennis players was a cool thing to do. Pop stars like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper ushered in an entirely new style replete with brightly colored accessories like sunglasses, bangles and hoop earrings.

Teens across the country were tuning into that new sensation, MTV.

Today, fashion and celebrities still garner attention, and fads spread like wildfire through social media. For its 30th anniversary, the Nashville Southern Women’s Show will be the biggest celebration of fashion, food, and fun ever. And for those born in 1986 and also celebrating their ‘30th year,’ admission is free!

“Every gal loves shopping and discounts,” said Stacy Abernethy, executive show manager. “The show this year will offer surprises and giveaways like never before. Some of the favorites are back, like Pink Friday, Girls’ Night Out and Mother Daughter Day, plus we’ve got lots of fun and surprises for our 30th anniversary celebration.”

The popular Taste of Home Cooking School returns this year with more recipes and tips to make dinner time a breeze.

Friday is Pink Friday, a fun alternative to Black Friday with all kinds of shopping deals and downright steals. Look for the pink balloons designating the more than 100 exhibitors who will participate with special offers and discounts. Friday night Girls’ Night Out is sponsored by Little Black Dress Wines. Sunday is Mother Daughter Day with hourly prizes and more.

There will be lots of new exhibitors this year, plus fan favorites like the Local 140 Firefighter Fashion Show which has raised thousands of dollars for Camp Phoenix, Box 55 and Fighters that Care (FTC).

Speaking of fan favorites, this year’s celebrity guests include: the delightful Kellie Pickler, Country Music artist, and star of American Idol and CMT’s I Love Kellie Picker; and Dancing With the Stars fan favorite Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
