Many sincere believers are puzzled about what God wants them to do in life. But Jesus’ reply is brief and simple. We must believe in Him whom God has sent (Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22). Satisfying God does not come from the work we do, but from in whom we believe. Our belief in Jesus Christ maintains our right to the Kingdom of Heaven. He also cleans us from criticism and justifies us before the Father. In this life, we may face many injustices; we may be falsely accused and misunderstood by friends and enemies. We may not truly be appreciated by others for the love we show. The true value of our work and service may not be duly rewarded and our ideals may be ignored.
But God is to be praised because He sees and remembers all the good we do. It is up to Him to decide the timing and the appropriateness of our rewards. If we do not trust Him to vindicate us, then we are susceptible to hatred and self-pity. If we trust Him, we can experience God’s peace and be free from the worry of how others perceive us and treat us. When we look at the vast expanse of creation, some may wonder how God could be concerned for people who constantly disappoint Him. Yet God created us only a little lower than the angels (Hebrew 2:6-9). We must remember that God considers us highly valuable and we have great worth because we bear the stamp of the Creator (Genesis 1:26-27).
Once we understand our worth to God, we can be set free from feelings of worthlessness as we struggle in a life of belief. We should constantly express to God our appreciation in the understanding of His worth. It is in saying ‘thank you’ for each aspect of His divine nature. Our inward attitude becomes an outward expression when we praise God. One of the natural results of praising God is witnessing. When we know God is wonderful, we naturally want to tell others and have them praise God with us.
