Friends, family and elected officials gathered at Bethesda Original Church of God to share in the celebration of Bishop George W. Price, Jr. On Sunday, June 5, Bishop Price gave his final sermon before his retirement at the 10 am worship service.
The theme of ‘Down Through the Years’ offered a great message, as Price has been in ministry since 1985.
Following the opening of the service and a welcome, Bishop Price took the stage as the senior servant of Bethesda Original Church of God to deliver his sermon. He began by reading, “If the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
The remainder of the program was dedicated to offering special presentations, such as a proclamation read by Mayor Megan Barry; remarks from State Rep. Brenda Gilmore; and Property Assessor Vivian Wilhoite, who dedicated a little song to the works of Bishop Price by singing ‘If I Could Help Somebody’.
Along with these presentations, other church organizations presented Bishop and First Lady Price with many gifts of different kinds. The youth did a dance presentation and his daughter presented him with a custom Bible, saying, “He loves Bibles!”
A special ‘thank you’ was given by the Retirement Committee, which created this program from the service to the decorations in the sanctuary in the fellowship hall. The Bethesda Original Church of God choir provided music.
The love for Bishop Price was also expressed in a souvenir program. Bishop Price has touched many lives throughout the years as a dedicated and humble servant in the word of God. As stated in so many of the program entries: “You are admired, adored and appreciated for so many things for touching so many lives in a positive way, for proving that nothing is impossible with God. You are more than a pastor. You are an example of commitment and perseverance in Christ.”
The morning ended with a congregational photo and a ‘meet and greet’ held in the beautifully decorated fellowship hall. Bishop Price said, he has enjoyed his many years in ministry, but looks forward to not attending the many meetings, conventions, and workshops that has always been a part of his life in ministry.
