State Rep. Brenda Gilmore puts her heart into everything she does. From wearing red (her favorite color) and championing community — especially older adults — to sporting her most festive hat with friends and family members to benefit FiftyForward Bordeaux.

Gilmore and friends gathered Friday, June 10, for the seventh annual Hats Off to Bordeaux! at the FiftyForward Patricia Hart Building, 174 Rains Ave., in Nashville. Kimberly Davis with NewsChannel 5 served as emcee for this year’s event.

Having been affiliated with FiftyForward for 15 years, Gilmore has served as Board President, Chair of the Strategic Planning and Program Resources Committees and currently serves on the Endowment Board and the FiftyForward Bordeaux Advisory Committee.

“I love the mission of this agency,” said Gilmore. “I think it has to do with my love for seniors. My grandmother raised me and I have learned firsthand how much older adults have to offer society and to youth today. We have to value that contribution and continue to open up those lines of communication.”

She continued, “This time of year everyone is sporting new toppers. It’s derby time, Steeplechase time, Easter and springtime. And in the middle of all of the well-known hat wearing festivities a lesser-known hat fashion show and festivity marks its seventh year of building visibility and raising funds to benefit FiftyForward Bordeaux. Let’s all join together for Hats Off to Bordeaux!

Mayor Megan Barry stopped by to greet attendees and to offer up her best wishes for a successful and festive event.
