K. Michelle does her thing

K. Michelle

Wednesday night, the R&B singer took center stage at Marathon Music Works in downtown Music City, where she announced several new surprises. For starters, she revealed she now has her own record label. This chick is making major boss moves. That’s not all she had up her sleeve. She has a new restaurant/hookah bar in Atlanta, Puff Lounge. She is also working on her home goods line (furniture), as well as a specialty drink with Jack Daniels. The Memphis songstress continued, gushing about her new doctor boyfriend, whom she dubbed as Dr. Sims on Instagram recently. In between songs, she started talking about how happy she is in her new relationship, finally leaving the “bad boys” alone.

Fresh off her third studio album, More Issues Than Vogue, came her Hello Kimberly Tour. Of course K delivered two offerings from the effort, “Not a Little Bit” and “Ain’t You.” After rocking the stage, she did a meet-and-greet with her loyalist of fans. Her meet-and-greet is far different than most. Michelle takes an unusual amount of time with each person, interacting somewhat on a personal level–joking, singing tunes, talking, snapping photos, autographing materials, etc. It’s very uncommon. It’s longer, but indeed unlike any other. Surely, fans appreciate her more because of it, given the tremendous amount of extra coins they dish out for the privilege. It’s most definitely not your standard backstage shake your hand, snap your pic meet-and-greet.

The Love and Hip Hop alum’s recent album concurrently becomes her third No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart. This follows up her two No. 1 albums: 2013’s debut album Rebellious Soul and 2014’s sophomore set Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? The R&B singer simultaneously bows at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. All of this while aiming for a “non-urban” sound. In the near future, the Memphis-bred songstress will flip the script on her sound, blending ballads and even country into her repertoire. Michelle was recently quoted as saying, “I want to be able to sing what I want. I want to be able to sing country. I want to be able to sing ballads that touch the world and not just one demographic.”

Now that K is all wrapped up in love and on a positivity kick, the singer/reality star continues making moves as she travels the nation on tour with cameras in tow. With her spinoff tv series, My Life, she finds herself in the throes of dating. Being able to live her love life in front of the cameras–the songstress reps her single status well, when she’s indeed single of course. She also offers up details involving her love life. “I don’t think putting my love life out there is a challenge. My love life is a big part of my music,” she explains.
