It’s August and with the end of summer looming it’s time to get out and have some last late summer fun. This weekend take in the 10th Anniversary Downtown Art Crawl and/or the 15th Annual Music City Brewer’s Fest, and next weekend, come out to the Frist for their 4th Art Deco Affair.
10th Anniversary Downtown Art Crawl
Focusing on iconic and contemporary themes, celebrated Nashville painter James Threalkill will be featured as The Arts Company Guest Artist at Work and will be presented on one of the Nashville Downtown Partnership Performance Platforms, executing a new painting during First Saturday Art Crawl Downtown Saturday, August 6 from 6 until 9 pm.
15th Annual Music City Brewer’s Fest
The 15th Annual MAFIAoZA’S Music City Brewer’s Festival is also Saturday, August 6, at Music City Walk of Fame Park, next to the Hilton Nashville Downtown. The festival is synonymous with amazing brews, MAFIAoZA’S pizza, and the best beer in Middle Tennessee.
With over 50 breweries represented and all beer tastings included in admission, this event will please both novice and connoisseur palates. Other festivities include area vendors, lawn games, local food from some of Nashville’s best restaurants including MAFIAoZA’S, great live music and a local DJ throughout the day on the MAFIAoZA’S/BLUE MOON Music Stage and the Uptown’s Smokeshop Cool Zone with misting tents, cool shade, and fans to cool down.
Tickets for Session A, 12 Noon- 4:00 p.m., are $39.00 plus tax; Session B, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., are $59.00 plus tax. Each offers a “Designated” Driver ticket that excludes beer sampling for $20 plus tax. Admission includes a MAFIAoZA’S Brewer’s Festival souvenir mug to sample from some of the best local, regional, national, import breweries in the world plus a few brews that aren’t normally available in Nashville, and new product launches.
Friday night’s VIP Event, August 5, from 7pm – 9pm at Walk of Fame Park, benefits the Tennessee Craft Brewers Guild, and will feature only Tennessee brewers who will have specialty beers that will not be available Saturday. Tickets ($45.00 plus tax) include food and beer from local breweries and restaurants. Tickets are available online at www.musiccitybrewersfest.com. This is a 21 and older event and must have ID for admission.
Frist Center’s 4th An Art Deco Affair
For the fourth year, the Frist Center hosts An Art Deco Affair, an evening to celebrate the historic Art Deco building that houses the Frist Center and raises funds for its maintenance and preservation. More than 300 guests are expected to attend. Black and white attire of the period is encouraged.
The evening comprises dining, drink, musical entertainment and an opportunity to view the current exhibitions in the Frist Center galleries: Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance, 1945-1975; Women, Art, and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise; Inka Essenhigh: Between Worlds; and Jaume Plensa: Human Landscape.
Drinks, hors d’oeuvres and dinner will be served in the Grand Lobby of the Frist Center. Guests will enjoy an elegant, Italian car inspired menu in celebration of the Frist Center’s current exhibition Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance, 1945-1975.
Music will be provided by Hiptet, a five-piece jazz ensemble that has been entertaining jazz lovers in Nashville for the last seven years. Their repertoire includes the music of American jazz artists including Duke Ellington and Art Blakey, as well as their own spin on the Beatles and classic Bossa Nova. Tickets are available now at $50 per Frist Center Member and $75 per non-member. All proceeds support the care and maintenance of the Frist Center’s historic Art Deco building.
