October is the 10th month of the year, signifying a proposed finish line of another successful year. Also the 31 days which subtly announce that another 365 days are forthcoming. The annual ‘Know Your Worth Women’s Conference (Come Walk the Purple Carpet) 2016’ played a major part in the lives of many this year. It featured an amazing visionary, Aaron Jordan, Jr.; an award-winning mistress of ceremonies, Lady Shaunte Garrett; and five more equally enlightening speakers.
Mending Hearts, Inc., a Nashville-based non-profit 501(c)3 recovery organization for women and children was the proud benefactors of the event. Trina and Charlotte-Grant Frierson are co-founders. Adding to the dynamic speaking and hosting styles of Jordan, founder/CEO of #MrKnowYourWorth and WENO 760 AM Radio Lady Shante were: Min. Marcus Tankard and wife Lady Latisha Tankard (Bravo Reality TV stars of Thicker Than Water); Tiffany Love Harden, founder/CEO Once in a Wifetime and husband Ahmad Rashad Harden (Boxes and Blessings and Once in a Manhood); author/entrepreneur Jae Henderson; and entrepreneur/author and Know Your Worth radio co-host, Michael Warren. Talking about a sensational line up, it was indeed a Sunday to remember.’
Add to that the soulful stylings of vocalist-jazz poetess, Jazzy Sdlihc and October 2, 2016 made some remarkable history. Jazzy’s husband Curtis Sdlihc lovingly supported her from two sides of the fence, personally and professionally taping her memorable performance.
The conference planners and promoters took this year’s event to another level, including but not limited to Nina Allen-Johnson capturing the essence of photographic images amid a stone cold Know Your Worth purple backdrop. Special emphasis is placed on the backdrop because having the right backdrop (complete with the organizations, colors and/or theme) can make a notable difference with the overall scheme of things.
The audience enjoyed each speaker, the poetess and the professional stream of knowledge enhanced or shared. They also enjoyed being exposed to the various vendors this year, like Tunisia Scott Publisher/CEO Tennessee Minority Pages (Spotlight Tennessee), Shatona Kilgore-Groves (Crown Events) and others. A few more pleasant surprises were the fortunate winners of KYW event tickets, including: Patricia Malone, Letisha Iswi Green and Benita Savage Nichols.
Conference ticket holders and guests drove from near and far to experience the conference and to take part in the theme ‘Come Walk the Purple Carpet.’ That theme and KYW movement founder Jordan’s innovative idealism laced the event and core cause firmly into imaginative seams.
At press time, we were informed that there would be little time off. After a short break, the KYW #Team will resume the necessary long hours, full days and nights that it takes to pull an event of this magnitude off.
“The demand for speaker slots, vendor visibility and to stay in touch with the Know Your Worth brand throughout the year is moving swiftly from a wish realm to a staunch reality. In 2017, God willing, we are going to push the envelope even further serving the community through this movement and all that my lovely wife [Ashley] and I are blessed to have: A gift is best shared. It is not kept for ourselves,” said Jordan.
Jordan also gave a virtual shout out (as only he can say this best) and “big ups” to the Marriott Cool Springs Hotel and each and everyone that contributed for this year, be it a small or large contribution of financial support, time and talent.
