I just love people. Sometimes people gather to celebrate other people. Sometimes people gather and unknowingly start a tradition. Sometimes people gather, expecting nothing and gain new friends, new relationships and new insights.
A few friends met at Swetts Restaurant one recent Sunday evening. They were friends of Evelyn R Gaines, a member of First Baptist Church. Most of them had known one another for many years, getting together periodically. They became ‘The Lunch Bunch.”’
These ladies met on this day because they wanted to continue the celebration for Evelyn R Gaines, who has passed away. Although the celebration was also one member’s birthday, the ‘Lunch Bunch’ met in honor of Evelyn R Gaines.
As the ladies dined and chatted, there came a time when thoughts were shared. It was during this time that one member of the group explained the way in which she came into the fold of The Lunch Bunch and how she came to know the others. Our relationship with people reflects the way we connect through a variety of social and business activities. Three of the ladies were sisters (and referred to by the group as ‘the three sisters’). One sister said: “I don’t meet strangers. I just love people.”
This reflects the feelings of all the members, so Mai Olive Lusk has made sure The Lunch Bunch continues to gather. Lusk’s love for supporting and gathering with family and friends is one that anchors her identity. Lusk supports her community, local establishments and an array of various friendships. Just as this group met through a long-time connection of women gathering for an occasional lunch (forming, The Lunch Bunch), others will gather for other reasons.
Happy birthday to those who celebrated birthdays in March including Mrs. Lisa who celebrated that day. Know that when you gather, there is always an opportunity to show kindness and love towards your fellow man.
