‘You Have the Power’ will honor Titans defensive lineman, Jurrell Casey, at their annual Powerhouse Award Luncheon from 11 am to 1 pm, CDT, at the Nashville City Winery on Tuesday, April 25.
“You Have the Power—Know How to Use It, Inc’ (YHTP) is a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to empower those victimized by crime through education, advocacy, and understanding.
YHTP is now celebrating its 24th anniversary. It was founded in 1993 by former First Lady of Tennessee Andrea Conte to advocate for victims and educate the community to prevent violent crime.
In 1993, Conte began an endeavor that would commit to helping victims of violent crime rise above the trauma to rebuild lives. As the organization has grown to help victims, so have members of its community.
YHTP is dedicated to raising awareness about crime and justice issues through victim advocacy, community education programs, brochures, and documentaries. Based in Nashville, it is funded through private donations and grants.
This year, You Have the Power will honor the All-Pro star for his personal efforts to empower youth in the community.
“I was put in this position to not only benefit myself and my family, but to help future generations in finding resources and setting themselves up for success,” said Jurrell Casey.
“We are so honored that Jurell agreed to be our honoree because he embodies our mission of empowerment. He recognizes the value and potential of all youth regardless of their circumstances, and he steps up and connects with them,” said Conte.
YHTP continuously strives to partner with both local and national organizations in their work for crime victims in Tennessee and across the country. Some of those include: the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; the Tenn. Crime Victims Rights Week Committee, the Center for Non-Profit Management; the YWCA Engaging Men Coalition; and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
The YHTP staff is equally proud to be a member and contributor to many organizations in the city and beyond.
YHTP remains one of Music City U.S.A.’s most cherished and valuable icons and a sincere help effort in the community at large.
