This April, South West London welcomed true southern flavor to its food scene with the launch of Stagolee’s, a brand new restaurant and bar. With an offering of quintessentially Southern American food and a vast selection of sultry liquors, specializing in serving fiery hot chicken and smooth bourbons, Stagolee’s really does bring a taste of the South to London.

Jordan Harris, a food lover and native of Nashville, Tennessee, set out to deliver a lasting memory of authentic Southern American joy with the launch of Stagolee’s. Eager to lead Londoners to the very best of true Southern American cuisine, Ashley James, Texas native with global experience in food and drink as Sous Chef at the acclaimed Rainbow Room in New York and trained under Michelin Star Chef Tom Aikens, is keen to incorporate the soulfulness of cooking passed on from her grandmother to the skillful curation of her own dishes.

Timeless portraits of dancing, eating, drinking the days and nights away harken back to Ashley and Jordan’s family lineage and welcome Londoners in for a social occasion, be it dinner before a night out of dancing or a weekend catch up over brunch.

The draws and comforts of Stagolee’s food include Skillet Fried Chicken (brined, dipped in buttermilk and fried to perfection), the Hot Spinach Dip (cheesy spinach and artichoke dip) and Baked Macaroni and Cheese (rich and golden brown) delivering a lasting and satisfying memory. Almost the entire menu is prepared from scratch daily to ensure all the flavors are authentic.

Stagolee’s Moonshine and bourbons are also there to broaden the tasting experience. As well as laying their heart and soul into the creation of the food and drinks menu, the open-hearted, lively and soulful culture of Southern America, is displayed throughout the intimate venue in the Fulham neighborhood of SW6 London.

Quoting American civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, Ashley and Jordan believe “…the people who give you their food give you their heart” and that’s exactly what they are offering with Stagolee’s. Locals and passers-by are welcomed to settle into a Stagolee’s, nurse a well-blended drink and savor a hearty meal, created and re-created by a long trail of nurturing Southern American women.

Experience has gone into the selection of liquors, beers and cocktails delivering a southern taste so genuine, you half expect to be transported to the Southern States yourself. The temptation and thrill of Moonshine drinks is re-imagined with their very own Moonshine offering, featuring ‘Vanilla MoonPie Moonshine’ a sweet and exotic drink, ‘Firefly Moonshine’ delivering a zestier taste and the unique ‘Mountain-rita’, a margarita featuring moonshine instead of Tequila.

Regular PRIDE readers may recall the likely inspiration for the name ‘Mountain-rita’ being the epic climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania by Jordan and his fellow Morehouse alum father, Alkebu-Lan Images owner Yusef Harris, recounted in the PRIDE in January, 2014.
