This year’s Second Missionary Baptist Cooperative Ministries (S.M.B.C.M.) Educational Banquet was a capitol success—all due to the hard work, planning, prayer and intensive footwork going into the event. Bishop Calvin C. Barlow, Jr.; Executive Director LaNese Campbell; and members of the South Nashville based Second Missionary Baptist Church beamed like proud parents during the banquet, and rightfully so. The host venue was the Volunteer Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel (airport) in Nashville.
The phenomenal evening began with a hearty welcome from LaNese Campbell, followed by a video illustrating the history of the S.M.B. Cooperative Ministries, Inc. Bishop Calvin Barlow, Jr. gave opening remarks and the evening carried through with soft and easy listening music from John Barlow and James Lee. Minister Shawn Holmes blessed the food, which consisted of fresh salad, hot bread, chicken breasts, and tasty Lasagna followed by a mouth-watering cheesecake. The cheesecake left patrons with the decision of covering their portion with strawberries or not. It was all topped off with tall glasses of cold sweet tea.
Joyce Helms blessed the group with her sensational voice singing solo selections. Minister Barry Barlow was succinct in his well-rounded introduction of the keynote speaker, Dr. Roosevelt Faulkner, E.D., LPC, BCPC, DAPA, NCC. He did an excellent job as the event attendees showed their appreciation with strong applause.
Before the closing remarks, there was a door prize drawing for all ticket holders, making the productive evening all the more interesting as Elder Emma Harlan called the winning ticket numbers. The drawing prizes consisted of everything from beautiful spa baskets (from ‘Not Just a Bath’) to specialty picnic baskets, and indoor counter top grills.
Closing remarks included a realm of special thanks to event participants, guests and sponsors, including: E&H Enterprises, Not Just a Bath, International Spectrum Cosmetics, Lowbar Publishing Company and all who lent a hand and contributed their time.
