September is the lead into the fall season and is known as National Recovery Month nationwide, and Recovery Fest Nashville is in need of community support. It’s a free grassroots movement event held every year. It’s all about celebrating the positive impact of recovery from mental and substance use disorders and other addictions and giving it the visibility and attention it deserves.
Statistics state that Tennessee is one of the most noted states for opiate use. But steps are being taken to squelch this stigma. Recovery is a powerful tool in both the war against drugs and life in general. Although each individual walks his or her own path of successful recovery, “it still takes a village!”
The event will be held on Saturday, September 30, from 11 am till 5 pm at East Park Greenspace in historic Edgefield, 700 Woodland St., Nashville, Tenn. 37206. There will be loads of good clean fun and powerful recovery speakers. This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating our Journey—Carrying the Message.’
Recovery Fest Nashville is an opportunity to show that treatment and recovery work. Our country is going through some big changes with the rollout of Health Care Reform, and our voices need to be heard. Members are over 23 million strong and together they can affect what decisions are made that will benefit sufferers of mental and substance use disorders.
Food trucks; musical performances; a variety of recovery connected liaisons such as ‘The Voices of Recovery,’ ‘Heroes in Recovery’; and more are just a small part of a much bigger picture.
The flyer for Recovery Fest Nashville reads: “We are on a journey and want to share our love and support with the people in our lives who walk with us. This is Nashville’s contribution to and celebration of National Recovery Month, September. Let’s help break the stigma associated with mental and substance abuse disorders that creates a barrier for those seeking and needing help.
That’s what Recovery Fest Nashville is all about. It’s an opportunity for us as a community to come together, encourage one another, and celebrate the recovery journey.”
Recovery Fest Nashville has proven over the years to be an invaluable asset to the city of Nashville and the community at large. It’s another positive, interactive reason making people proud to be a part of Music City USA.
