Victims of Hurricane Harvey who have fled to Tennessee can now apply for a month-to-month lease at any apartment complex in Tennessee that is part of the LIHTC program.
Typically, LIHTC apartment communities are required to only offer long-term leases and only to low-income households. THDA has waived these restrictions if you are a hurricane victim from any of the 18 Texas counties that have been a declared federal disaster area.
To find a LIHTC apartment property with a vacancy, please visit our interactive map and follow these steps: Click the second tab, labeled “Active LIHTC properties”
All of the dots on the map are LIHTC properties. Scroll around the map to find a dot near you or click the search icon in the top left corner to go to specific city or county.
When you click a dot, you’ll see a box with the property name and other information. To find out if that property has a vacancy, click the “More Info” link in the box.
Clicking “More Info” will take you to the property’s listings on TNHousingSearch.com. Each listing will say if it is currently “Available” or has a “Waiting List” under the rent & deposit. (If you are sent to the home page of TNHousingSearch.com, the property has no listings that are either immediately available or have a waiting list.)
The 18 eligible Texas counties are: Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Ford Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Jackson, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, and Wharton.
LIHTC refers to the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, established under President Ronald Reagan as an incentive to private developers to build and maintain affordable housing. As the state’s housing finance agency, THDA manages the LIHTC allocations in Tennessee, which to date have been used to finance construction or rehabilitation of more than 61,000 units.
