Fisk University celebrates Homecoming 2017 Sunday, November 5 through Saturday, November 11. Their theme this year is Kickin’ It Ol’ Skool. Experience the fun and comraderie of an historically black college in full effect, with activities for returning alumni, current and future (prospective) students, and friends of the historic school, Nashville’s first University, with a Royal Coronation and Ball, concerts, sports events, a fashion show, and of course, parties. Here’s the rundown, day by day:
Sunday, Nov. 5: 9am — Homecoming Chapel Service; 4pm — Judge Allegra Walker SGA Oratorical Contest, Little Theater; 5:30pm — “Do You Want a Revolution?” Gospel Explosion, Chapel; 10pm — Homecoming Kickoff / The Cypher: 90s Edition, New Livingston Hall Dance Studio.
Monday: 11am-2pm — Fisk Family Reunion “This Is How We Do It”, The Yard; 5-7 pm — “Bridging the Gap: A Real Talk with Music Mogul Debra Antney”, Appleton Room Jubilee Hall; 9pm – Mid, “All That 90’s Silent Skate Party”, Rivergate Skate Center ($13 admission / $7 headphone rental).
Tuesday: 11am-2pm, “Yo! FiskTV Raps Student Vendor Fair”, The Yard (Appleton Room, inclement weather); 8-10pm, “Golden Ages” Fashion Show, Cravath Courtyard.
Wednesday: 12 Noon- 1pm — The Magic School Bus: Fisk Day of Service, Multipurpose Room; Pop-Up Shop, Paul Mitchell The School Murfreesboro and Excel Barber College, Crosthwaite and New Livingstone;7pm — Mr. & Miss Fisk Coronation, Chapel, followed by Coronation Ball.
Thursday: 12 Noon — Lip Sync Battle,The Cafe; 2-5pm, All Grown Up! 90’s Day Party, New Liv Dance Studio; 8pm – Mid, The Gold & Blue Scholarship Bash: A Benefit for Fisk University by the Nashville Fisk Alumni Association, W. O. Smith Music School; 1125 – 8th Ave. So.; $50, $500 table, includes open bar of wine and top liquors, heavy hors d’oeuvres all you care to eat buffet, live band, DJ Victor Chapman, Party with the First Family of Fisk – Dr. Kevin Rome & First Lady Rome, along with hundreds of Fiskites and friends of Fisk, valet parking, all proceeds for scholarships; 9pm- 1:30am, Ultimate Kickback Fest: 1 Night + 1 Venue + 3 Locations + 5 DJs = $10, interactive experience f/t food trucks, live music and great vibes, New Liv Dance Studio and Gymnasium.
