Mens’ Basketball
Tennessee State University men’s basketball redshirt junior forward Christian Mekowulu earned Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors. Mekowulu posted back-to-back double-doubles in TSU’s two games during the week. The 6-9 forward from Lagos, Nigeria averaged 21.0 points, 16.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game versus Fisk and Lipscomb.

Playing its second overtime game of the season, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team was handed a 95-86 loss by Lipscomb on Saturday night, December 2, at the Gentry Center. The Tennessee State men’s basketball team led start to finish in a 67-53 victory over crosstown opponent Fisk on Tuesday night, November 28, at the Gentry Center.

TSU (4-3) is 3-2 in home games this season, 1-1 in overtime this season. After a break for final exams, TSU hits the road for six-consecutive games away from the Gentry Center. The road trip begins at Alabama State on Wednesday, December 12 in Montgomery.

Womens’ Basketball
In a hard fought battle, the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team fell to Arkansas State, 68-62, Thursday night, November 30, in First National Bank Arena. Tennessee State fell to 0-5 while Arkansas State improved to 3-3 on the season.

After a break for final exams, the Lady Tigers will be seeking their first win of the season against Fisk University at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 9. Listen live on 102.1 FM The Ville.

Football – 2018 Fall schedule released
Tennessee State University announced its 2018 football schedule, which features four home games and a trip to crosstown Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Vanderbilt. The Tigers open the home slate by hosting Bethune-Cookman in the John Merritt Classic on September 1. TSU will hit the road for the next six contests, including their annual meeting with Jackson State at the Southern Heritage Classic on September 8 in Memphis.

The remainder of the home line-up consists of a trio of Ohio Valley Conference matchups. Tennessee Tech visits Nashville on October 20 for Homecoming 2018, while Jacksonville State and UT Martin make visits to close out the Tigers’ regular season on November 10 and November 17, respectively.

TSU will begin the road portion of the schedule at Hampton on September 15, a week before the start of OVC play. The Tigers open conference play at Eastern Illinois on September 22. The Big Blue will step out of conference play on September 29 with its second game with Vanderbilt in three years. It also marks the third consecutive year with a contest against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent.

The Tigers close out the road trip with stops at Austin Peay and Murray State. The final OVC road contest will take place on November 3 at Southeast Missouri.
