Dr. Katherine Y. Brown Leadership Academy inducted seven new ‘cohort’ members at their recent holiday gathering. After greetings by Dr. Katherine Y. Brown, the induction ceremony was facilitated by Sydney Y. K. Brown, founding member and Academy president.

The seven new members known as the ‘savant seven’ included teens: Cartiana Bell, Saidia Bell, Hadiyah Bell, Trinity Kinslow, Kaycee Pritchett, Katelyn Starks, and Jordan Hill. The KYB Cohort Leadership Award was presented to Jordan Hill.

The event was held at the downtown Nashville based Waller Law Firm. Guests and inductees alike dined on an array of food prepared and catered by executive chef, Irving Brown II, the CEO of The Goodlife Personal Chef Service nation-wide. The evening’s exquisite menu consisted of salmon mousse with crispy leeks, braised chicken pate’ on crostini, rustic chicken and sausage martini over yellow peppers and dressing, and sautéed shrimp Alfredo pasta. The Tyronn Hamilton Jazz Trio provided music for the evening.

Each ‘cohort’ received awards and enjoyed being showered with gifts by the board members and guests. From start to the finish, the tone was set amid the tall beautifully decorated Christmas tree and other seasonal decorations, helping make for some eye catching backdrops for photographs. Holiday and general photographs were taken throughout the night. For guests seeking to capture their essences via professional photography, Milisea Fuqua of BeYoutiful Photo-graphy was on hand.

The Dr. Katherine Y. Brown Leadership Academy is a yearlong cohort program that includes an international study abroad experience, service projects to increase awareness of Pulmonary Hyper-tension and training on leadership and financial literacy.

KYB leadership Academy survives on sponsorships and donations, and the support of the cohorts’ generous parents, family members and volunteers. A major sponsor is the nonprofit Roberta Baines-Wheeler Pulmonary Hyper-tension Awareness Group, another comm-unity program that is making an impact and changing lives.
