It is now the time of year to begin recruiting churches for Project Transformation (PT) interns. It is suggested that the recruitment process begin in the weeks after Christmas while college students are in their home states.
Using the model of a United Methodist-based ministry, Project Transformation Tennessee began in 2010. This program began recruiting college aged interns to serve urban and rural neighbors in and around Dallas, Texas since 1998. Those students felt ‘called by God’ to introduce and support the ministry in their home state of Tennessee. The Tennessee Annual Conference quickly embraced it.
In 2012, Project Transformation Tennessee was launched as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Nashville.
Since that time, Project Transformation Tennessee has served more than 2,000 children in Nashville, Murfreesboro, Memphis, and Clarksville through the ministry of 230 young adults.
It consists of college internships, an elementary program, and a middle school project.
Project Transformation provides two key services:
– Leadership development and career/ministry exploration opportunities for college-aged young adults through summer and one-year service internships
– Community-oriented after school and summer literacy and enrichment programming for children and youth in low-income neighborhoods
– Please spread the word about PT’s summer internship program with college students in your church and community. We are looking forward to an awesome intern class in summer 2018. Tool kits have already been prepared to assist with recruitment.
There are several items included to assist with recruitment, including: a calendar, social media posts, a church bulletin insert, a PowerPoint slide, internship facts, and a prayer guide.
“We thank the Red River District for your support of the Wesley Foundations at APSU, Fisk, and TSU and Project Transformation this summer,” said Rev. Katie Woodard, pastor at the APSU Wesley Foundation. “We also thank you for sharing this opportunity to your churches.”
