The 60th Grammy Awards have received their nominations from the Recording Academy. R&B, Hip Hop urban is leading the pack with several nominations, including Nashville native, producer Joshua ‘Syk Sense’ Scruggs. Scruggs has been nominated in three categories, Best R&B Song, Location (Khalid), Best Urban Contemporary Album, (Free6Black) and American Teen, (Khalid).
Whether it’s a quiet meeting with songwriter Beth Neilson Chapman or an upcoming rapper, ‘Syk Sense’ is relatively laid back. However, despite his low-key demeanor, he wants to put Nashville on the map.
“The journey may have been bumpy with a few winding roads, but if the pebbles line up correctly it may lead to #Nashvilleroadtogrammygold,” said Scruggs.
Grammy Nominated Best New Artist, Khalid Robinson was just being born when ‘Syk Sense’ first started sampling beats. Long before the album American Teen (with Khalid) came to fruition, Syk Sense had a mission and a goal to succeed as a young music producer. As of today the single from American Teen ‘Location’ has gone four times platinum and racked up more than 204 million hits on YouTube, with more than 70 million clicks on Soundcloud.
Music City has never just been about Country or Blue Grass music. Nashville has also been about Jazz, Pop, Rock & Roll and R&B.
“It’s been said that Music City derived from the mouth of Queen Victoria when The Jubilee Singers were touring Great Britain and Europe in 1873. Although we appreciate all types of music flowing in the air and in our veins of Nashville, don’t get the game twisted,” said Syk Sense as he reflected on his long journey in the music industry.
As he continues on his legendary musical journey, Syk Sense is very excited to have his productions on the way to the Grammys. For more information, visit Syk Sense on Facebook and other social media streams.
Grammy award winners will be announced on January 28 on CBS, live from New York’s Madison Square Garden.
