Mayor David Briley has been sworn into office as mayor of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County following certification of the May 24 election results.
“As mayor, I am dedicated to an open and transparent government, to finding common ground and building trust,” Mayor Briley said. “I will build upon Nashville’s current unprecedented economic successes while improving opportunities for all Nashvillians. That includes more access to financial capital, a great education, good jobs, affordable housing and safe neighborhoods.”
Davidson County Criminal Court Judge Angie Dalton presided over the private swearing-in ceremony in the Mayor’s Office, where Mayor Briley was joined by his family, friends, and staff.
Mayor Briley also officially resigned his position as vice mayor. The election for Nashville’s next vice mayor, the leader of the Metro Council, will take place on August 2, with a runoff election five weeks later if necessary.
