While making her way across the states on a national tour, famed cook and author Carla Hall ends her book tour in her hometown of Nashville.
Hall is the author of Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration. She began her tour in mid-September in Washington, D.C. and will be ending the tour on December 4 in conversation with Kellie Pickler in Nashville at Parnassus Books, 3900 Hillsboro Pike, #14 in Green Hills at 6:30 pm. While promoting her delightfully colorful and informative book containing a variety of recipes along with personal stories, Hall has appeared in different cities doing cooking segments, talk shows, and interviews that make the written stories and recipes come to life. Audiences have been wowed with the recipes and Carla’s zest for life and how cooking remains a great part of her growing up.
“This book is a collection of my favorite recipes, and it combines easy weeknight meals centered on seasonal vegetables with rich celebration dishes for special occasions,” Carla said. “I don’t just know soul food. Soul food is in my soul.” African Americans have been cooking farm-to-table foods for centuries. You think you discovered kale? Child, we’ve been eaten’ those greens for hundreds of years and I’m going back to all that.”
Carla Hall began her career as an executive chef, a private-chef for the super rich and later started a catering company of her own. She then became a contestant on Top Chef. That was a very intense time; however, she then found her way back to her soul food roots when she found a stress reliever by remembering that nothing made her happier than ‘Granny’s food.’ She began to work in the techniques learned in professional kitchens to prepare some of her grandmother’s recipes. The judges, fellow contestants, viewers and everyone could feel the love in her food.
The book Carla Hall’s Soul Food is a reflection of her cooking for millions of Americans on television. It’s coming back to soul food.
Hall is the author of two other cookbooks, Carla’s Comfort Foods: Favorite Dishes from Around the World and Cooking With Love: Comfort Food That Hugs You.
