Meharry Medical College has served the nation’s health care needs for 143 years. This year, the College is convening its 144th commencement exercise because it held two graduation ceremonies in one academic year during World War II. The Grand Ole Opry House will be the venue on May 18, 2019 as the event begins at 9:00 a.m., with doors to open to the public at 8:00 a.m.
During Commencement and Reunion Weekend, the Continuing Education Theme is Lifestyle Medicine & Generational Disparities. Among the highlights for returning Meharry Alumni are Continuing Education Lectures. Wednesday May 15, the Inaugural Opening Lecture is open to all registered alumni, followed by an Alumni Luncheon Presentation and Panel Discussion entitled “What’s Going On With The Curriculum,” a Simulation and Clinical Skills Center Tour, and the Alumni Welcome Reception.
Thursday, May 16 highlights include an OB-GYN Educational Seminar: “New Horizons in Women’s Health,” SOGSR (School of Graduate Studies and Research) Presentations (posters exhibits), Alumni Hospitality, a Wealth Management Seminar and Luncheon, the Lloyd C. Elam Psychiatric Symposium: “Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes and Mental Health”; and a presentation on “Opioids – Chemical Dependency in Dentistry” CDE Seminar, a Tour of the School of Dentistry Museum, and the Alumni “Let’s Reminisce” event.
Friday, May 17 highlights include the 32nd Annual Charles E. Brown, M.D. ’60 Memorial Golf Tournament; SOD (School of Dentistry) Continuing Education Lecture; the Nurses Continental Breakfast; the Annual Internal Medicine Commencement Seminar “PTSD, Burnout and Suicide in Clinicians (Parts 1 and 2)”; the Delta Dental Simulation Center Skills Enhancement; Alumni Hospitality; a Luncheon Lecture “Meharry: The Forgotten Treasure”; the Meharry National Alumni Association, Inc. Annual Meeting; the Golden (1969) & Silver (1994) Anniversary Dinner; Reunion class meetings and Class pictures; the Old School Alumni Party and the Young Alumni Party on the Patio.
Saturday, May 18 highlights are the 144th Commencement Exercises at the Grand Ole Opry House; the Alumni Family Picnic; the Alumni Gala Reception and Alumni Gala. Sunday, May 19 the Weekend ends with the traditional Alumni Farewell Champagne Brunch at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel.
