The twin duo group, Joy Boyz, celebrated their 36-year anniversary singing quartet style gospel, on Saturday. The event was an outside gala of praise held on the lawn at Bass Street Baptist Church.
Damon King of Gospel Radio 760, WENO, hosted the event. Approximately 20 groups performed and recognized the Joy Boyz for 36 years singing the Gospel. Some groups traveled from around the country to honor the twin duo, including Serenity, Broken, Patrick Hollis, and Everett Drake.
“We have performed with some of the greatest quartet groups in the business, and we have traveled the country with great gospel groups such as the Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Bolton Brothers, Lee Williams and many more,” said Donnie of the Joy Boyz.
“It’s been a blessing and honor for God to use us and to have given us 36 years to deliver his word through song.”
The duo is also looking forward to promoting their upcoming release entitled ‘He Did It.’ It will be released soon, and Joy Boyz hope it will be a blessing to many.
“There are very few quartet groups in Nashville today. It’s not like it was many years ago,” said Donnie. “The younger generation is not singing the quartet style music, but the quartet style music always brings out the shout in the soul of our people. That’s why we keep singing his praises through music.
“I gain encouragement from the music of the Joy Boyz, to be a part of this event is an honor and I am encouraged to continue in my music.”
Everett Drake was also one of the local performers.
“We are here to recognize the Joy Boyz for all of the many people they have blessed through music, here in the city and around the country,” Everett said.
There was also food, vendors, and entertainment for the children with many enjoying the music and praising the Lord.
