“Verily I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them,” Matthew 18:18-20.
When Jesus told his disciples that when two or three were united on a request or a decision, He was with them. We see that Christ taught in terms of togetherness among His believers. When we stand together, we show solidarity. Take, for instance, praying in the spirit. When Peter was imprisoned for preaching the gospel, the saints gathered to pray for His safety and release. “And when he had considered these things, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose sir name was Mark; where many were gathered together praying,” Acts 12:12. When we unite as one in prayer, it pleases God. It shows our unified desire as the body of Christ. It’s important to stand together in the faith and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
How do we stand together? There is a basic underlying truth to our uniting as one. “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please His neighbor for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but as it is written, the reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and confident of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one towards another according to Christ Jesus: that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God,” Romans 15:1-7. As we endeavor in this Christian walk, let us unite ourselves as one giving, sharing, loving, and supporting each other at all times.
“Brothers and sisters be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you,” 2 Corinthians 13:11. As brothers and sisters in the faith, we need to live in love and peace with one another in order for the God of love and peace to be with us. “If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any miracles, fulfill ye my joy, that you be like-minded having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Look not every man on his own thing, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 2:1-5.
By working together, we supply the needs of the weak and the unfortunate. This is how the manna of God is spread from generation to generation. Let’s go forth in Jesus’ name working together as one.
