Spiritual warfare

Many people today are unaware that there is a battle going on in the spiritual realm. Many Christians are unaware that there is a war going on for their souls. Some churches teach about spiritual warfare and some churches take lightly the role of spiritual warfare and its significance in the role of believers in Christ.

Satan is becoming more intense upon his attack on Christians because he is aware that his time is limited. One of his plans is for us to believe that he is not real.

Christians that are aware that spiritual warfare exists are not taking it seriously. Wake up friends, there is a real war going on. Spiritual warfare is a reality in the lives of every believer in Christ. The enemy wants to dominate us with worldly enticements.

Our enemy (Satan) has been around before creation. He was originally one of God’s angels living in heaven until God cast him out of heaven. Most of us only know about him as it relates to deceiving Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). We are fighting an enemy that we cannot see. The war is between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light. Satan is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. He is not happy with what God has accomplished in Christ. Satan’s main goal is to destroy the faith of Christians by getting them to doubt God and his word. Jesus has already destroyed all of the works of Satan. As children of God, he has also equipped us with armor to distinguish Satan’s attacks against us.

Satan has been given temporary freedom to oppose God in this world (1 John 5:19). In the meantime, God has given us promises by which we can use His power to win every spiritual battle that Satan would wage against us (1 Corinthians 10:12-13). “He has given unto us power to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemy; and nothing will harm us,” Luke 10:19.

The enemy (Satan or the devil) is very clever. He hides in unusual places. One of his favorite hideouts is in religion. He hides in art, in music, in poetry and in our human understanding. He even tries to get us to take scripture out of context. When we use scripture out of context, we are doing just what he wants. Satan wants us to doubt God and His word. He does not want what God says in His word to work in our lives. That is why we have to be on guard and stay alert.
