President and First Lady test positive for COVID-19

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the Coronavirus.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for the Corona Virus.  The diagnosis was made public early Friday morning via a tweet from President Trump.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” he tweeted just before 1 a.m. “We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The President’s physician released a statement dated Thursday, confirming the positive test result.

“This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus,” he wrote.  “The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence….Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering…”

The diagnosis comes amid criticism of the President for holding large rallies and downplaying the threat of the virus.  Also, the diagnosis brings into question how the president’s illness will affect political campaigning, coronavirus relief legislation, and confirmation of the new Supreme Court Judge.
