Expressions of faith
Life Church

Bishop Monterey
D. Lee, Sr

Today’s message is based on Matthew 16:18.

As a Life Church, we must know how Jesus is.

A life church is knowing Jesus and the mission he was sent here to do. If you don’t know, you need to ask Jesus to send you back; back to a real relationship with Him; back to knowing who He is in you; back to a prayer life; back to real love; back to real church; back to a love for His word; back to righteous living; back to true repentance with a Godly sorrow; back to true worship and praise; back so you will know who Christ really is.

Who do you say that Christ is? Notice that He questions his disciples as to who He is? Peter makes His ‘great confession’ of who Jesus is. Peter was way ahead of some of the apostles in making this confession. It was Peter that spent so much time with Jesus. He would therefore have a better relationship and knowledge of who Jesus might be.

The ‘great confession’ of Peter was a confession that revealed the knowledge of who Jesus was—the revelation of Him being divine and co-equal with God, not as God the father, but God the Son that came down and was made incarnate as a man. He was the God man on earth.

The concept Peter had must come together in his mind and make sense, because who else could Jesus be but God the Son? He was the Messiah that has come in flesh.

“Simon Peter answered and said, ‘you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘Blessed are you Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto you, but my Father which is in heaven,’” Matthew16:16-17.

Peter had this truth from the Father, through the Spirit of God. It is a blessed thing to be given the ability by God to understand the things of the Spirit of God.

“Blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desire to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it,” Matthew 13: 16-17.

This is why you are called blessed when you hear and obey the Spirit of God as Life Church. We are the church and act according to the Spirit which leads and guides us, just as Simon Peter did in the text. We must have our eyes and ears blessed to understand and speak ‘life.’

“So I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hell or Hades shall not prevail or overpower it,” Matthew 16:18.

God is saying: “Upon you Peter I will build my church; upon you, rock, I will build my foundation. I need some one that will hear my voice, so that when the enemy comes against you, you will not fall or give in. This does not make you infallible. I am the only one that is infallible. But you are in me and I’m in you.”

As Peter abides in God, God abides within him enabling supernatural insight into the things needed done on the earth.

So God is saying to Peter: “Upon you, I can build my church. You will not seek the church as your own. You are the caretaker over the flock that I can trust. I can trust you to teach the flock the importance of seeking My guidance. I can trust you to not be a religious organization but rather a living spiritual organism, and to teach the saints to walk in a unique function that will keep the body (church) healthy as healthy church!”

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. And whatsoever you will loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven,” Matthew16:19.

He’s saying that “The keys I will give you will bring people into the kingdom of heaven with the message of salvation. My church is about saving souls; my church will keep a people close to me—with the keys, the church will stay together. Keep this revelation of whom I am to yourself for now. Let me teach the word of my Father for now to the people so that they will know for themselves. Let me teach ‘theology’ (the nature of God’s divine order); Christology (Christ as the Messiah, the person, nature, and role of Christ); pneumatology (the Holy Spirit, the breath of God, the influence, they helper).

In this day and time in which we live, we need a rock. We need people willing to be rocks in the earth. You have the keys to be a rock. No more being looked down upon. It’s time to go up. So I call out to the ‘rocks’ of this age and time. Stand up and be strong, brave, determined, Be a warrior. You are Life Church!
