Expressions of faith
Do you remember? (part 4)

Joshua told the Israelites to put away their strange gods or idols to follow the true God. It required destroying whatever got in the way of a relationship with the Lord. You must destroy it and put an end to the existence of the enemy’s attack to save your relationship with God from being damaged (Joshua 24:23-28).

Don’t let it demolish you. You demolish it. You tear it down; you knock it down; pull it down; break up all the fallow ground; crash it; dismantle it. Remove your evil habits, clear your hearts and prepare yourself for the seed of righteousness.

“Put away the strange gods which are among you, and open up your hearts unto the Lord God of Israel,” Hosea 10:12.

When you put it away, you open up to God and you put Him first. To truly put God first you have to let go of what others think and follow your heart. When you put God first you give yourself a voice—a voice to speak up, stand out from the rest, and represent.

The people said unto Joshua: ‘The Lord our God will we serve, and His voice will we obey.’ I will make a covenant with you this day, and I will set a statute [written law, act, a decree, a resolution, an order, a command, a rule] and an ordinance in she-chem. I will write these words in the book of the law of God, and take a great stone. Set it under an oak tree, that is by the sanctuary of the Lord. Set up and alter or build an alter for ourselves. Not for burnt offerings of sacrifices, but instead it is to be a witness between us and you, and between the generations after us, so that we may carry out the worship of the Lord in His presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings. The alter of the Lord our God, is in front of the tabernacle (Joshua 22:26-29).

Burnt offerings were for the propitiation of sin and a complete surrender, devotion, and commitment to God. The sacrifice was burnt on the alter and eaten in communion at the sacrificial meal.

Grain offerings (tribute offerings) were made of flour, grain, olive oil, and salt (this is unleavened bread made without yeast—otherwise called flat bread).

Fellowship offerings (wave offerings) were a separate class of offerings given to God as a servitude of peace and commitment. This is done by the priest that were commanded to life as servants of God. This was done for the people by the ‘Man’ of God [priest] over the alter waving it in the air. It was then eaten in return for their service. After the priest ate, the people would eat.

Joshua is doing the same thing for the people before God at the sanctuary of the Lord. The stone shall be a witness unto us [against us] for you. The words on this stone are the words of the Lord so that you will not deny your God. Now go home and live.

Go Reuben; go Gad; go Manasseh, Asher, Dan, Judah, Issachar, Simeon, Benjamin, Naphtali, Levi, Ephraim and live—because you have a covenant with the Lord your God.

The source of your spiritual food should receive your offering. This is an act of worship before God.

The people gave to the priest before going into the tabernacle to worship God. The Man of God was true and obedient to God. When the Man of God gave a word the people knew it was God speaking through Him.

Will you trust God in all that you sacrifice for Him? Are you willing to continue living the righteous life before God, all while God fights your battles? Remain steadfast and unchanging, remembering all that God has done, is doing and will do for you. Remember!
