Expressions of faith
Man of God

Bishop Monterey D. Lee, Sr

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked [ungodly], nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams [rivers] of water that yields [brings] its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers, and whatsoever he does it shall prosper,” Psalm 1: 1-3.

Life is like a road that we travel. The person that travels on this road in the presence of God will be happy (blessed) because God is with him. This Psalm is all about wisdom—knowing how to hear the word of God, because God is calling for people to follow the path of righteousness He has paved for us to travel to receive the blessings of righteousness.

Verse 1-3 teaches that we are the heirs of God that He calls the righteous. We don’t call ourselves righteous. God calls us righteous because of our obedience to Him and His word. His word tells us how to live. “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel [advice] of the ungodly, nor stands in the way [pathway] of sinners, nor sits in the seat [in the company] of the scornful [mockers].

  • “We do not do what the ungodly [godless] do. We don’t walk in the counsel of the wicked. We don’t go where sinners go or do what they do. We do not stand in the way of sinners. We don’t scorn or sit in the seat of the scornful [see the word of God as worthless—of no use or good].”

Verse two teaches that the Godly man “loves what the Lord teaches; his delight is in the law of the Lord. He repeats it day and night. [He meditates on the word].” His will is to remember the word and live by what the Bible says. Not just a hearer but a doer of the word.

Verse three says: “He will become like a tree planted [rooted, placed, seeded in the ground so that he can grow] by rivers of water.” Water gives us new life; it nourishes and replenishes the body fluids that we need for daily living. It maximizes physical performance and brain function. Allow the everlasting flowing water of life from God to cultivate your spirit to perform at its maximum potential.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but raise them up in the nurture, admonition, discipline and instructions of the Lord. As you are an example as a man of God for your children you will nurture them for success. A man of God brings it’s fruit in its season. Your fruit is your seed; and it’s leaves will not fall [become dry]. There will be balance in all its parts. Everything that he does will be very good, prosper, be successful,  increased in wealth, health and happiness,” Ephesians 6:4.

Be planted in the word, and God will do the rest. As you grow and mature as a powerful man of God, so will everything you harvest in the earth. Be planted; be successful. Prosper, and increase in wealth, health and happiness.
