You may have heard this story from a pulpit. “One day a man was stuck on a rooftop during a flood. While he was praying for God to save him, a rowboat came by and told him to get in. He declined. As the water rose and he continued to pray, a motorboat came and told him to trust them and climb in. He again declined. As the water was beginning to cover the rooftop, a helicopter dropped a rope and told him to climb up. The man refused saying that God would save him. Needless to say, the water covered the rooftop and he drowned. It is said that with an opportunity to talk to God after his death, the man asked God why he didn’t save him. God replied by reminding him of the rowboat, the motorboat and the helicopter that was sent and how he refused them.”
This sounds familiar in more than one instance. Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, began a journey with stage four lung cancer when the world was halted by a pandemic. He had to receive help from several sources under two completely dire circumstances, his cancer and the COVID-18 pandemic. Throughout this simultaneous situation, he is not only healing from cancer but has been blessed also not to have contracted the coronavirus.
This week he has issued a plea with 10 reasons why people should take the vaccine that is available to slow the spread of COVID-19 and its new, additional strands:
1) Protect yourself
2) Protect friends
3) Protect yourself
4) Protect others
5) Protect yourself
6) Protect your family and friends
7) Protect yourself
8) Protect me
9) Protect yourself
10) Protect others
“Without apology, I have some individuals I no longer socialize with because they refuse the COVID vaccine,” said Rev. Fuzz. “It makes no logical sense not to take the vaccine, but especially those religious pundits who pretend God told them not to take the vaccine. I put them in the category of followers of Rev. Jim Jones whom God told to ‘drink the punch.’ As a minister of God, I know God hasn’t told anyone not to take this vaccine. School children must have certain vaccines every year before they are allowed in classes. Preachers that instruct church members to avoid this life saving miracle are being reckless. Younger people who refuse the vaccine are being selfish by ignoring others who are vulnerable. Please take the vaccine. Please!”
With each refusal, you refuse the help that people have prayed for in sending us help in this time of need (relief from the pandemic). Taking vaccination shots such as for polio and others required to attend school is what has kept us from contracting those diseases. These vaccinations for COVID would have the same effect. It will stop the spread of the pandemic that is again on the rise.
Why does it take so much convincing? It never takes that much convincing when you are in an emergency and in need of medications you are unfamiliar with. Just check your daily medications. Ponder on what convincing was required for you to purposely swallow your medicine everyday as prescribed (and sometimes if bought over the counter, i.e., self-medicating).
Will you keep praying while you refuse the rowboat, the motor boat and the helicopter? When it’s too late, how can you ask God why he didn’t save you?
While you pray for Rev. Enoch Fuzz, trust and know that he is also in continuous prayer for you. He is praying that those not vaccinated recognize the lifeline before it’s too late. Visit his Facebook site where you will find him sharing his concern, his praise in pictures and his testimony and song. As we continue to follow God’s guide, keep following his weekly journey ‘Cancer: My Journey in Time.’ Also, a special note of thanks for continuing to read and share this journey. May it be a blessing in your life.
